Star Wars fans are buzzing over the latest rumor, which claims that Ahsoka Tano will be making her return to live-action. The series is said to have cast Ezra Bridger and Thrawn as its leads, with the former being portrayed by actor Freddie Prinze Jr.
The ezra bridger live-action actor is a rumor that has been circulating for quite some time. A recent article claims that Ezra Bridger, the character of Star Wars Rebels will be cast in live action.
According to a new Star Wars casting rumor, the live-action versions of Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn will appear in the forthcoming Ahsoka series on Disney+. Not only that, but the report also claims that Ezra and Thrawn’s parts have already been cast! If any half of this story is true, it will be a huge issue for die-hard Star Wars fans. Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and Thrawn were all important characters in the Star Wars Rebels animated series’ final arc – which has since become a major chapter of the story, launching The Mandalorian and this Ahsoka serial. So, in that sense, this rumor does have some logic to it.
Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher, Sherlock, House of Cards), the man who portrayed the clever and cunning Imperial Admiral in the Rebels animated series, will play Thrawn, according to LRM Online. Mikkelsen is a perfect match for live-action Thrawn, with his tall, slender physique and piercing gaze.
Meanwhile, Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan, Disney’s Aladdin) has been speculated to be cast as Ezra Bridger, as we previously reported earlier this year. With his Lothal background, Ezra is a tougher decision to make, but Massoud is near enough to the idea of the sandy-skinned young padawan – not to mention the actor has a lot of Disney fans following Aladdin. If this is accurate, it seems to be a wise casting decision.
The creators of fan-favorite Star Wars animated shows such as Clone Wars and Rebels (headed by Dave Filoni) have been pivotal in constructing the wider Star Wars live-action TV Universe, which is based largely on the bones of their animated storylines and characters. Simultaneously, the Star Wars TV crew has worked hard to maintain strong ties between the animated and live-action worlds, both in terms of fan-service appearances and crossovers, as well as key arcs and developments that begin in the animation world and culminate in big live-action events. Having Ahsoka pick up the loose ends of Rebels would accomplish this, and it’s believed that Ahsoka will be mostly about the hunt for Ezra. As two would-be Jedi and Force users who didn’t exactly stick to the road, the two characters share a natural bond. Star Wars has been quietly paving the way for those oddball characters to flourish in new ways…
SPOILERS for Star Wars Rebels are ahead!
Ezra Bridger and his comrades aboard The Spectres fought Thrawn during the last arc of Star Wars Rebels, and almost lost everything. Thrawn was only stopped because to Ezra’s developing (and terrifying) Force abilities, when Ezra called a flock of Purrgil creatures to Thrawn’s ship and let them pull him and Thrawn away to the deepest reaches of hyperspace. Fans have long been enraged by Star Wars’ avoidance of Ezra, Thrawn, and the inevitable questions regarding their positions in the post-Empire period. If Ahsoka does actually solve the riddle, it will be regarded must-see television for Star Wars aficionados – and yet another compelling reason for non-fans to rewatch the animated series on Disney+.
Sabine Wren is a character from Star Wars Rebels. She is the daughter of the late Albus Wren, and was introduced in season 2 as a member of the Spectres rebel cell. Reference: sabine wren live-action.
